Production Diary Blog 12.03.2013

I began my production of my front cover and DPS. After completing all of my research and flat plans I went onto doing the actual photoshoot. I booked and planned my photoshoot to take place on the 1st March; this was a perfect time as it was quite far in advance from my final deadline. I told my two models what I wanted them to do in the photoshoot and planned what they would wear and look like a week before the shoot, as this gave them time to prepare and myself time to think of new ideas for the shoot instead of thinking on them on the spot and wasting time. During the shoot I learned many different skills including how to take effective photos and to use the lighting effectively to make my photos look as best as they could. When the shoot took place I thought it had gone very successfully and I was pleased with the photos.  As a result of having my main model wear red on a black background, found that I had a very limited colour scheme, when piecing my front cover together. I also felt as my product was beginning to not appeal to my chosen target audience. Originally I wanted the colour scheme to be reds, yellows and blacks to get the connotation of alcohol being poison across; however after seeing that it was not appealing to my target audience, I felt I had to reassess my front cover.
I decided that my best solution was too have another photoshoot, so that I could change the image of my magazine and get it back on track to appealing to my target audience. I went and rebooked my photoshoot, but the closest one to the time I could get was not until the 18th March. In the mean time I worked on my front cover without an image, and began to add my headline, skyline and sell lines.  As soon as I started my new front cover, I automatically felt it was looking better; however as I changed the look of my magazine I changed the magazine that I was basing mine on. I originally wanted it to look like a heat magazine, however now I am basing it on Seventeen magazines. I feel this will appeal to my audience much better.

As a result of changing my ideas and thoughts it has put me behind and therefore have a lot of work to do once I do my photoshoot. However while waiting for my new photoshoot date, I started thinking about my DPS and if I needed to change this in any way to match my new front cover. Although my first photoshoot was not a waste of time as I can use some of them images in my DPS as I did some a white background and not on black.I began setting out my DPS and deciding what other photos I needed from the photoshoot.
